In the foothills of the Shade Mountains, north of Tarloc is one of the Shores oldest and most enduring legends. They speak of a great black dog, with fierce glowing eyes. Occasionally it bears a macabre skull for a face. Wolves and other beasts avoid it, and it is said that it can vanish from sight right before a man’s eyes.
