Aiken House was a 24 storey tower block in wills way in the Cape Hill area of Smethwick in Sandwell. Completed in 1970, it was 67 metres tall and has since been demolished. I lived their at 48Aiken house from 1970 till 1976 their was always problems with lifts water pumps and in the 70s general strike no power it was a night mare walking up all those stairs . the two blocks was named after local Doctors Friday nights was a quick one in the George down to the cape of good hope for another quick drink their use to be a bowling green at the back of the cape of good hope later turned into a car park. then a bus ride into brum for a night on the tiles and then the midnight bus home oh happy days NOT!
