The Avalon-class light cruisers are a type of starship used in the Honorverse by the Royal Manticoran Navy. The Avalon is the newest class of light cruiser used by the Royal Manticoran Navy, and is equipped with the new off-bore missile launchers, allowing them to fire missiles from the broadsides into the fore and aft arcs (however, these missiles are not the 16c type mounted on the larger Edward Saganami C-class, meaning lower range) as well as the new bow and stern wall shields. They were introduced along with the Edward Saganami-C class heavy cruiser and Roland class destroyer and make extensive use of automation, reducing crew size (and marine complement) dramatically.
