The Sergeant at Arms was the commander of the Senate Guard assigned to guard the Grand Convocation Chamber. He or she sat in the central pod below the Supreme Chancellor and Vice Chair. The New Republic Senate also had a Sergeant at Arms. In a broader sense, a sergeant at arms can be used to describe the chief guard assigned by a legislative body to maintain order. The Bakuran Senate, Imperial Senate, and the like most likely had sergeant at arms (or the equivalent). By 25 ABY, Mif Kumas had been Sergeant at Arms of the New Republic Senate for two terms.
