Eric Lee Shanteau was born on October 1, 1983 in Snellville, Georgia, USA. Shanteau was a member of the 2008 USA Olympic team. A week before Olympic trials in 2008, Shanteau was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Shanteau missed making the final of the 200 meter breaststroke by just .13 seconds. After returning to the states, Shanteau had surgery at the end of August 2008 and is in remission. Shanteau was a member of the 2012 USA Olympic team and swam in the qualifying heats of the 4 x 100 meter medley.
