The Wii Number is a unique 16-digit number assigned to each Wii. A Wii number is used to communicate with other fellow Wii owners who are connected to WiiConnect24 using the Wii Message Board. To do this, Wii Numbers must be exchanged, but afterwards, they are registered as Wii Friends.
