Poison is fairly common in this game. Certain moves can be used by enemies can cause poison on the spot. Smithy is known for being the only character in the game that can poison multiple characters at the same time. It should be noted that the Mad Adder cannot use any named poison moves but can still poison with a bite that it uses. Poison, in this game, can be healed with either Princess Toadstool's healing techniques or with Able Juices.
