Sally Wingo was elected to Parliament in April 3331. In 3348, she was elected Deputy Leader under James Sharpe. Not long after becoming Deputy Leader, Wingo was named to the Cabinet as Minister of Environment and Tourism. Following Sharpe's death in 3355, Wingo, as Deputy Leader, automatically became interim Leader of the Liberal Party. However, Rutanian President Katy Monn needed to appoint a new Prime Minister. While initial speculation led many to believe that Léon Ajzenstat or Silvia Cronulla Menzies would receive the position, Wingo was ultimately nominated for the post.
