The House of Anemas, also known as the Anemid dynasty, was an imperial and royal house of Greek origin and of great importance in both the muggle and the wizarding worlds. It was a cadet branch of the Palaiologos dynasty, its founder, Stephanos I Anemas, being a bastard son of Andronikos III Palaiologos. Stephanos was granted the Theme of Nicaea with hereditary privilege, and despite the honours granted onto them by the Palaiologoi emperors, the House of Anemas would ally with the expanding Ottomans, knowing that the Empire would not survive against the Turkish menace.
