Leticia frantically searches Rose Cottage for the jeweled mask. She finally finds it in a locked box, but is caught by Gerard while on her way out. Gerard demands to know where she got the mask. Leticia claims she only found the mask, but Gerard doesn't believe a word she says and marvels over the fact that it must be worth a fortune. Leticia tries to play along with him and offers to take it into town and have it appraise. He agrees to let her go, and Leticia leaves. After a few moments, Gerard sneaks out of Rose Cottage and follows her.
