The abandoned research rig is a location beyond the Brink in The Lost Frontier. It was the research station used by the Aeropans for the Dark Warrior Program long ago. However, it was eventually abandoned for unknown reasons, but still remained heavily protected. Whereas the rig appeared to be used for experimentation and research, the old Aeropan barracks seemed to be used more for training and as a military base, though both facilities served similar experimental roles.
