Rule 4 prohibited the abuse of bugs or flaws in the game's programming for personal gain. It was one of the original Rules of Conduct, but as of 11 May 2009, this rule now falls under the Honour category. The types of bugs ranged from killing people outside the Wilderness (World 111 Glitch) to duplicating items (Party Hat Duplication Glitch). The punishments issued for bug abuse varied depending on the offence. Abuse of small, but unfair bugs generally resulted in a temporary ban, usually 72 hours to 14 days. Abuse of more serious bugs, such as the one demonstrated in the Falador Massacre, generally resulted in much more lengthy (and usually permanent) bans.
