Literally, terraforming a planet simply means that one is taking a world that was once inhabitable for life and making it habitable by various technological means. Though the word stems from making a world into one with Earth-like conditions, ‘terraforming’ a world can be adapted in the context of alien nomenclature if atmospheric conditions differ from the ones on Earth.
