Belarus (Belarusian and Russian: Беларусь, Belarus'), officially known as the Republic of Belarus, is a republic of the Soviet Union. One of the founding republics of the USSR in 1922, Belarus was also one of the nine remaining republics to sign the New Union Treaty in 1991.
