R eal Dracopelta were small (about two metres long) ankylosaurs from Late Jurassic Portugal, and it is one of the earliest ankylosaur species known. They were covered in tough armour to defend themselves from predators. This armour is in tough knobs and spines on the back and along the tail. Little is known about this dinosaur, and only one incomplete fossil is known. The name Dracopelta means "small dragon shield".
