Shortly after the beginning of the Dark Order War, the Kuat system was captured by the Dark Order of Korr, a faction of the Imperial Remnant led by Jaden Korr. In the aftermath of losses sustained before Jaden's takeover of the organization, it required large production facilities to rebuild and repair its forces, which was the chief reason for the occupation of Kuat.
