The '07 Shelby GT-500 is a Hot Wheels casting based on the production car of the same name, debuting in the 2008 New Models. The success of the new 2005 Mustang made it almost inevitable for Ford and Shelby to reconvene for the first time in decades, to recreate the old successes of the past. In 2006, the first Shelby Mustang Variant was released, as the "GT-H". This car was a recreation of the 1966 Shelby GT350H series of rental car mustangs. One year later, Ford and Shelby released the GT500. The car had an incredible 500 horsepower from a 5.4 litre motor. Convertible versions soon followed, and later on upgrades from Shelby came, beginning with the 40th Anniversary Package, and ending with the "GT500 Super Snake" package.
