The 1956 Raleigh 250 was a Grand National (now Sprint Cup) event held at Raleigh Speedway on July 4, 1956. Fireball Roberts dominated the event, leading 201 of the 250 laps in route to a two-lap victory on Speedy Thompson. Thompson's owner, Carl Kiekhaefer launched a protest, however, on Roberts' flywheel. NASCAR, having no scales, went to a local fish market to do the test. When they returned to the track, Roberts was cleared and given the victory. Eventual sesaon champion Buck Baker finished 11th. Stats
