The Terran A-17b Wraith-class starfighter is a derivative of the A-17a Wraith-class starfighter, which in itself was a derivative of the commonplace A-17 Wraith-class starfighter. The velocity and manueverability performance enhancements of the A-17a derivative were countermanded in the A-17b series, giving the A-17b the same handling characteristics as the original A-17. However, the A-17b had an interstellar warp drive which allowed it to jump between systems without a carrier capital ship, although the effective range of the jump drive was not long.
