The Tom Cat, first released in 2001 by Tom Kuhn, is a variant of the SB-2 with a Butterfly profile for string tricks, and can be fitted with removable rubber weight rings. The Tom Cat was first offered in a limited edition tortoise-shell anodizing reminiscent of the original SB-2. Whereas the tortoise-shell on the SB-2 was a very natural and organic looking mix of blacks and coppers, the tortoise-shell of the Tom Cat is a much more splash-anodized mix of black, gold, and orange. The yo-yo is produced in numbered limited editions.
