A death poem is a poem composed by a samurai on his death bed. It is often composed earlier than that, but is presented during a samurai's final days. It may be written with the assistance of a poet or on one's own. If a samurai dies in battle or another unexpected way another person may compose his death poem. For example, Rezan composed the death poem of his friend Kijuro after Kijuro was slain.
