The Second Galactic Republic, also called the Galactic Republic and the Second Republic, or simply just the Republic, was a galactic government founded in 142 ABY to replace the Galactic Federation Triumvirate, which was viewed to be more of a provisional government. The Second Republic was led by the Minister Chairman, who oversaw the Galactic Senate, along with the Speaker of the Senate. By 143 ABY, almost two-thirds of the galaxy were part of the Republic. For several decades, the Second Republic fought against Imperial and One Sith remnants the One Sith Civil War, which involved attacks by factions in Republic territory. Due to this threat, the Second Galactic Republic maintained the Second Republic Defense Force, which included an army, navy, starfighter corps, and other services.
