William Wyke Smith (1808-21 July 1878) was a solicitor who worked in local government in London. In 1825 he was articled as a clerk to W H Burkerfield, solicitor. He qualified and established his legal practice in Bloomsbury. He was solicitor to the Metropolitan Commission of Sewers until its abolition in 1855. In 1861 he was appointed newly-created post of solicitor to the Metropolitan Board of Works. He held the office until his death. He died suddenly, from heart failure, at his home in East Molesey.
