Lord Roose Bolton was a powerful bannerman of House Stark of Winterfell, Roose answers the summons of Robb Stark after his liege lord, Eddard Stark, is arrested in King's Landing. Fighting alongside Robb Stark, Roose eventually betrays him after the decisive Lannister victory at the Battle of the Blackwater. With the secret backing of the Lannisters, the Boltons and Freys betray and massacre the rest of the Northern army at the infamous Red Wedding, during which Roose personally kills Robb Stark. As a reward for his betrayal, Roose is appointed the new Warden of the North.
