Furher was the tenth head football coach for the Doane College Tigers located in Crete, Nebraska and he held that position for four seasons, from 1904 until 1907. His coaching record at Doane was 13 wins, 11 losses, and 0 ties. As of the conclusion of the 2007 season, this ranks him 11th at Doane in total wins and 15th at Doane in winning percentage (0.542). In 1971, a gymnasium at Doane College was named after Fuhrer, with him present at the dedication.
