During Czechoslovak times, the club played primarily in the 1. Slovenská národná hokejová liga, one of the two second-level leagues in the country. They won the league in 1979 and 1980. After independence, Dubnica joined the second-level Slovak 1.Liga. They won the league in 1994 and were promoted to the Slovak Extraliga. The club was relegated from the Extraliga following the 1996-97 season.
