Graham Elwell, a drama student from London, was the first ever contestant to appear on the the UK version of the show on 4 September, 1998 as well as the first contestant to appear on any version of the show. He walked away with £64,000, which was a good result for the first ever episode. He was also the first ever UK contestant to reach the top tier of questions.
