A Peggy Sue fanfic, named for the 1986 film Peggy Sue Got Married, is a fic in which a character's consciousness travels back in time to a previous point in the timeline, rejoining with their past self's body and gaining the opportunity to relive their life with the knowledge accumulated the "first time." On rare occasions, they are also able to carry an artifact back with them. Although this type of story has been written for decades if not longer, the term itself was coined circa 2006 on the TV Tropes Wiki by pro/fanfic author Robert M. Schroeck.
