Charles T. Hillyer was a 19th-century politician and soldier from Connecticut. In 1853 Hillyer moved from East Granby, Connecticut to Hartford, Connecticut. Hillyer served in 1837 as a State Senator from Connecticut's 3rd Senate District. In 1842 Hillyer was serving as a Justice of the Peace in Granby, Connecticut. He latter served as a Union Army General in the American Civil War. He was a leading supporter of the YMCA in Hartford when it was founded in the 1880s. Hillyer was a founding member of the board of the Hartford and Connecticut Valley Railroad in 1880. Hillyer served on the railroad's board until 1888.
