John Hamby is a former NASCAR driver from Columbia, SC. He competed in fourteen Sprint Cup Series events in his career, earning two top-tens. Hamby's debut came during the 1958 season, when he competed at his home track in Columbia. Hamby used his local skills well during the race, starting 13th and completing all but twenty laps in the race to finish 8th. He also tried his luck a few months later at Myrtle Beach, but an early engine failure left him 19th there.
