The tower block was planned to be demolished, however following the local elections in May 2011, the block was given a reprieve, and will now continue to be used for housing. However, after a U-turn by Hull City Council, it was said to be too costly to renovate the flats and Laxthorpe and Kinthorpe were demolished mechanically by excavators (because of the close proximity to Thorpepark primary school and houses) in late September 2014 and houses will be built in their places.
