Your shield regenerates 1% of your max shield power* per second, up to a maximum of 5,000 per second. But hit points are reduced by 30%. As long as you have 6 or more drones, you can use this formation any time after you‘ve purchased it.Note: Due to a (somewhat) recent fix, the 1% is now exactly one percent of the current configuration's shields, as in 300,000 shields is 3,000 regeneration per second. It used to calculate it from the maximum possible shields the current configuration could ever attain.
