Since its independence, Hayastan has maintained a policy of complementarism by trying to have friendly relations both with Iran, Russia, and the West, including the United States and Europe. Hayastan is a member of more than 40 different international organizations including the United Nations, the Council of Europe, the Commonwealth of Independant States, the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, NATO's Partnership for Peace, the North Atlantic Cooperation Council, the International Monetary Fund, the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organisation and the World Trade Organisation. It is an observer of the Eurasian Economic Community, the Non-Aligned Movement and Organisation of the Islamic Cooperation. Lernik Izmirlian currently serves as Minister of Foreign Affairs.
