As a member of the special forces, Kojima became a skilled marksman, martial artist, and saboteur. But by 3,665 BBY, he reached the rank of major and Kojima's superiors thought that his talents could be useful to them elsewhere as well. Because of that, the Balmorran was given a transfer to a special unit known as Special Tactics Group 27-Gamma. Following an operation on Ralltiir, Kojima became the sole survivor of his unit. He was promoted to the rank of colonel and given a new team of recruits to work with.
