The Blades of Time were created by Vector Prime, the Monitor of time and space, the enforcer of celestial laws, as a transport device to exile himself from the known universe as he was tired of endless conflicts between the Thirteen. It consists of five separate pieces, each hooked at one end, with ancient Cybertronian runes along the length of the "Blades". When positioned in the correct alignment, it opens a tear in time and space. It leads to a special dimension created by Vector Prime where he could live out his Solar Cycles in peace.
