An indoctrination virus was a human-tailored virus created to instill in those infected a sense of religious awe, and could be modified to introduce specific beliefs. One such virus was created -- presumably by the Church of Sky -- to create religious devotion towards Sky Haussmann. There were several variations and differing levels of severity with each, dependent on how one went about getting infected. For example, "Red Hand" Vasquez, a member of the Sky's Edge underworld, was required to surround himself with objects associated with Sky, otherwise he would shake uncontrollably.
