In Adûnaic Bar or Barûn was the title for a geat Lord, usually a local liege-Lord or the governor of a colony, in contrast to an Er, a Prince of the royal family who was in the line of heirs to the throne.After the fall of Númenór the titles Er- or Bar- became heritable forms of address among the local Black Númenórean successor-Lords.Among the Elendili Bar was translated into Sindarin as Hír or Híratar.
