When a legendary sword, an ancient Arabian scimitar, is sent to Joe Dawson, one of the Watchers, with instructions to give it to immortal Scottish warrior Duncan MacLeod, Joe sets out to unravel the secrets of the sword and why it is being sent to the Highlander. This novel is an elaboration on the backstory presented in the season 3 episode Finale and tells the story of how Duncan met Hamza as portrayed in the flashback. Although the novel depicts Duncan as Hamza's slave, this is never mentioned in the onscreen episode.
