A billhook is a traditional cutting tool used widely in agriculture and forestry for cutting smaller wood materials such as shrubs and branches. It is a very common tool in wine-growing countries of Europe as well as many other countries across the world. The billhook is an issued tool in some armed forces, being used for cutting brushwoods for making fascines and gabions-originally for the construction of cannon and later machine gun emplacements. In the Indian army it is known as a knife gabion.
