Ichiro Saruno was a bushi member of the defunct Badger Clan, which always hoped his clan would recover its former glory. He had a son, Ichiro Gofuki, and a daughter, Ichiro Saruki. Saruno lost his daughter, who vanished in the night, and his son, who began a Musha Shugyo in a quest to find his runaway sister.
