Caprice Castle was built by Demon Pundit to house excess puns in Xanth. It appears for a day in regions where puns have become very thick. He assigned Piper to collect the puns. When Piper failed, Pundit forced Piper out and turned him into a blobbish monster. Only the best musician in Xanth could become master of Caprice. In a musical showdown between Piper and Picka Bone, Picka won and became master of Caprice.
