Smoke wore this rather odd looking mask before he was automated into a cyborg by the Lin Kuei Clan, this very mask covers his more delicate features and even his identity as well. Smoke was not always a cyborg: he was originally human and clearly a most skilled ninja with expertise in stealth and theatricality as shown in both Mortal Kombat 3 and Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks before his ordeal with the Lin Kuei clan themselves.
