Janofsky was a Manticoran citizen and an officer of the Royal Manticoran Navy. Holding the rank of Commander in 1844 PD, he wrote an article in the Proceedings of the Royal Manticoran Navy Institute, titled "Commerce Protection and Societal Disintegration", which caught the attention of then-crown prince Roger Winton.
