The arena was slated for closing after the opening of the Benson Centre in 2011. The arena was demolished in February of 2012. The arena was the site of Maurice "Rocket" Richard first professional goal and where he chose the legendary number 9 as his new uniform number after learning he was father to a nine pound baby girl.
