The Sand Whale is a large, worm-like creature that lives in the sands of Egypt. It is unknown if it is part of Mental's forces, as it was brought to Earth as a larva from Gamma Pegasi, probably due to landing-pad contamination. It is very territorial and can sense something walking above the sands from miles away. When something gets close to it or its territory, it leaps out of the sand and swallows the thing whole. Its thick scales make it immune to all sorts of weapon known to man, except for precision nuclear strikes.
