The jugular vein is the main vein that allows deoxygenated blood to drain from the head. It is located on the right side of the neck at the front and is very close to the skin. As it is the only major vein that is always completely above the heart when a person is in a normal posture, blood drains through it primarily through the force of gravity rather than by muscular contraction. In No Reason, one of House's wounds is to the jugular vein. Had he not been in a hospital, it is likely the wound would have been fatal as a great deal of blood drains through the vein.
