Betweeen Exits 51 and 52, are two rest areas. The formerly proposed Babylon-Northport Expressway was intended to run over them as well as the expressway itself on an overpass. A second rest area once existed between Exits 65 and 66. This was closed due to incidents of frequent misuse for homosexual trysts. It was later converted into a makeshift truck weight station.
