In the year 6852, the Unknown Fortress suddenly appeared, heading towards planet Gradius to steal the new ship Alpinia. The planets in the fortress' path disappeared as if they were teleported to some hyperspace zone. Alpinia, Vic Viper, and Lord British were launched towards the fortess and destroyed it by taking out the enemy controlling it.
