The Office's first season had mediocre ratings. Due to Steve Carell's hit movie, The 40 Year Old Virgin being released, and due to other factors, it gained viewers throughout Seasons Two, Three, and Four. Season Five was, so far, it's highest rated season. Season Six continues the slow gain in viewers from Season one.
