The 2007 Sharp Aquos 500 was a Nextel Cup (now Sprint Cup) event held at California Speedway on September 2, 2007. Jimmie Johnson came on as the moon came out, using a nighttime set-up to drive to a 1.84-second victory on Carl Edwards. It was Johnson's fifth win of the year, and with one race to go until the Chase, now had the top seed. Points leader Jeff Gordon was a factor until a mid-race crash left him 22nd while the points bubble remained the same.
